NE OF THE EARLIEST annual activities of CFCP, dating to 1940 at the Glendale YWCA, the Convention held each spring has become a major unifying event bringing together members and interested friends from throughout the state. For many years, the Convention was held on Memorial Weekend, but for the past few years it has been held a few weeks earlier, in an effort to link it to National Poetry Month, which occurs in April.

The two-and-a-half-day Convention offers a combination of lectures and workshops on various aspects of poetry, and features awards ceremonies for the winning poems in both the Junior-Senior Contest, open to students in grades 7 - 12 throughout California, and the "regular" Annual Contest, open to all adults. The Convention concludes with a banquet and the awarding of the Golden Pegasus trophy for the poem judged to have been the most outstanding entry in the contest.

The 2008 Convention will be held April 25 – 27 at the Marriott Ontario Airport Hotel, 2200 E. Holt Boulevard, Ontario, CA. It will feature several outstanding poets and writers from the state. Teachers can earn professional development or University credit for attending this event.
